The Fred Wah fonds collects materials from Vancouver-based poet Fred Wah, who was appointed as Canadau2019s fifth Parliamentary Poet Laureate in 2011 and has published 25 books between 1965 and 2016. Wah was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1939 and grew up in the West Kootenay region. His Chinese and Scots-Irish ethnic background and identity have a significant influence on his literary work. Wah completed an undergraduate degree in Literature and Music at the University of British Columbia, where he became a founding editor of the TISH newsletter in 1961, and has taught at Selkirk College, the David Thompson University Centre, and the University of Calgary. The fonds contains a number of interviews, conversations, lectures, and public readings recorded between the years 1976 and 2006, featuring local and national literary and media figures such as Lorna Crozier, bpNichol, Daphne Marlatt, and Stuart McLean.
