Bill Schermbrucker begins his talk introducing himself and how he began writing, his experience of writing and how important it is to listen to criticism.
On side two, he mostly tries to talk about his experiences and his early writings; he gives a bunch of advice to the audience.
He also talks about magazines and how it works to get published by them; he talks about the mistakes editors make at the magazines just out of rush. he talks about his definition of a good editor too
On side one he continues talking about the following topics:
1- He starts talking about The Capilano Review and briefly his experience of working there as an editor and the editing process itself.
2- Writing about political context and what is happening in the present.
3- He also gives advice on what inexperienced writers to write about
4- His advanced composition course
5- How he works as a writer; while answering this question, he shares a story behind one of his stories explaining his idea of how he thinks he writes everyday as a writer
