NOTES

Type:
General
Note:
After a brief introduction by Roy Miki and Robin Blaser, Blaser opens the discussion by asking James Laughlin to explain how his grandmother contributed to the foundation of New Directions. Blaser also inquires about Laughlin’s policy for selecting books to publish. Laughlin discusses his early decision to become a publisher, the concerns he faced at the time, and the individuals who have worked with him since the inception of New Directions. Additionally, Laughlin delves into Ezra Pound’s influence, including his fascist political ideology and advocacy for social credit reform. Finally, he reflects on the experience of publishing books during the years 1932–1935.
